farewell … for now

transparent

Sadly, here at the Creative Collective, we have decided to take an indefinite break.

As you may have noticed, there is only three founding members remaining and we are finding it hard to keep up the level of enthusiasm and creativity we think the Collective deserves.

Between babies {Tam and Angie} and business {Kellie}, something had to give and unfortunately, it’s this site.

We still fully believe in the vision and potential of the Creative Collective but can’t devote the energy to it at this time.

So we are taking a break and hope to be back bigger and better perhaps in the future.

In the meantime, please feel free to follow us in our individual accounts

And in the meantime, happy creating!

{guest blogger} Paper Pencils

Guest Blogger: Dry as Toast

If you’re a pencil geek like me, then you know how important it is to find just the right one.  It’s not only about how well it writes, but also about making a statement while you scribble down thoughts and dreams.  If you’re nodding your head in agreement, then you’re going to love Kimanh’s paper pencil DIY over at Scissors.Paper.Wok.  She uses sheets of origami paper for her tutorial, but you can just as easily use scraps you have around the house and it’s so simple to do that soon you’ll have a cup full of them in all colors and designs. As for what to put them in, how about decorating some tin cans while you’re at it, too?

{DIY} fun for the kids – playhouses

Last year, Chantal made this amazing castle out of cardboard. It has forever stuck in my mind ha a great project.

That’s why I had to share these two ideas for DIY playhouses.

The first is made from a barbecue box, so you could use any box from your latest large appliance purchase. But in case your not in the market for any whitegoods, the second with some odds and ends and a few things from a craft store.

{DIY} Wall Art from Vintage Sheets

Vintage Sheet Rainbow Scrap Packs Image

I love going to my Nanny’s house and opening her linen cupboard just to look at the gorgeous vintage sheets that she has in there and that she still makes the beds with.  The bright patterns and bold colours are mesmerising to me.

The thought of cutting them up to use for upcycled craft ideas seems almost criminal but there really are some gorgeous things that can be made from these beauties!

The possibilities are endless but I am really partial to this Embroidery Hoop Wall Art Tutorial by Diary of A Quilter - would be a lovely feature in a craft/sewing room.

Have you upcycled Vintage Sheets in any of your projects?  We’d love to see what you’ve done!

Join in the Collective’s April Blog Hop

The Easter bunny is coming early next month so instead of a month filled with Easter treats, we thought we would send the creative bunny out into the internet and have a blog hop.

How does it work? Each day someone writes a post on the theme, linking to the person who went before them and the person who will be coming after them. Each day, we will also feature those people here, and we will keep a list of all the bloggers for the month for easy reference.

The theme for our blog hop is creativity ~ your creativity, how you keep your creativity going, where you find your creativity, your favourite creative way to spend your time. Get creative, that’s all we ask. It could be pictures, words, a quote, your latest creative endeavour, whatever you find fuels your creativity.

On the final day, we will round-up some of our favourite posts right here.

Sign up here {spreadsheet on Google Docs} following the instructions. If the month fills up, we will start a second group, just pop your name in the waiting list section and we will get right on it.

Any questions, email me and I’ll do my best to answer them.

And don’t forget to grab the button to show you are part of the Creative Collective blog hop.

If you’re on the market for some new serving trays, here’s how you can save a few bucks and truly customize one to fit your style. Monica Ewing of Crafty Nest has taken an old cupboard door found at a local salvage yard and repurposed it into a chic serving tray using old drawer pulls, and a bit of paint. Follow her instructions at the Crafty Nest to learn how to make your own. And the serving tray DIY possibilities are endless: cover with scraps of paper or fabric, play with the color palette, choose different handles, or find doors with different details.
